A VILLAGE calendar has revealed the hidden talent behind a voice that's familiar to millions.

BBC Radio 4 presenter and news reader Kathy Clugston was so impressed at the sun setting over a cliff top above the North Cornish coast that she pulled out her mobile phone and snapped away.

The result, Night Falling, provided the winning entry for September in the newly produced calendar. Kathy admitted to it being her photographic debut and says she is "very thrilled".

"I'm not much of a shot," she added, "but somehow it just came out really well and I entered it on a whim after picking up a leaflet for a competition.

"I must say I had a wonderful few days in Boscastle. I spent most of my time walking and found the scenery stunning."

The idea of creating the calendar came up in discussions over the best way to present entries in a photographic competition organised by Boscastle Chamber of Trade and Commerce as part of its food, art and crafts festival, BosFest 2009.

Kathy's entry was one of dozens eventually reduced to 12 images of the area suitable for the calendar. Proceeds from sales go to local charities and other organisations.

Committee member and treasurer, Chris Searle, was delighted to discover the celebrity entry. Who'd have thought someone who worked in radio would be such a good photographer," he joked.

"We're glad Kathy enjoyed her stay in Boscastle and we welcome her help in promoting the calendar."
