IT was bop while you shop at a Launceston supermarket on Saturday, with an in-store disco and staff in 80s themed fancy dress.
The charity fundraiser at Tesco was held to celebrate the start of the final year of the national charity partnership with Diabetes UK and British Heart Foundation. The nationwide ‘Final Countdown’ weekend saw more than 300,000 Tesco colleagues raise money to help improve the health of the nation.
They brought back the fashion and energy that made the decade so great, in-store activities included an 80s style disco in the store kindly provided by Tim Coleman Entertainments.
Speaking on behalf of the National Charity Partnership, Bianca O’ Donnell, head of fundraising said: “We’re really excited to see the fun and innovative ways the Launceston team raised money for the National Charity Partnership during The Final Countdown. We really appreciate Tesco colleagues giving up their time to help raise money for our cause and are so pleased with the efforts made by everyone involved.”
Mike Hart, store manager, said: “Tesco colleagues across the country have come together to make The Final Countdown a great success and raise money for the partnership. I would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to our customers and colleagues alike, for their continued generosity.”
Since the launch of the partnership in January 2015, Tesco colleagues have generated an estimated £8.9-million through store fundraising alone.
