AWARDS were presented to the best allotments in the Launceston area during the full town council meeting on Tuesday, September 19.

Councillors had been impressed with the high standard of allotments in the area and decided the best of the best should be rewarded for all their hard work.

Mayor Margaret Young said: “A lot of effort goes into our allotments around the town and I think you would agree all the effort these people have put in has been worth it — the weeds are the only good thing in my garden so I have been so impressed with what they have achieved.”

Cllr Young then announced the winners and presented each with a trophy, a certificate and a £10 voucher and awarded the ‘highly commended’ winners with a certificate.

The results are as follows: Kensey allotment — winner Mrs G Whaley, highly commended Mr Clifton; Dutson allotment — winner Mrs C Sochanik, highly commended Mr J Pritchard; Grammers Park allotment — winner Mr K Parnell, highly commended Mr Penwarden.

The overall winner was Mr K Parnell who received another trophy and a £20 voucher.
