A youth club that supports children with autism and their families can broaden the range of opportunities it provides, thanks to sponsorship from Valero Pembroke Refinery.
A grant from Valero's community engagement fund will provide the Pembrokeshire Autism Friendly Youth Club with an opportunity for new activities and equipment for the 25 families it currently supports. The youth club serves the whole of Pembrokeshire, and is based in the Bloomfield Centre in Narberth, providing a chance for families to spend time together secure in the knowledge that their child will receive support in a safe environment.
Lisa Othen, chairman of the youth club, said: "Here at the Pembrokeshire Autism Friendly Youth Club we believe it is essential to provide an environment particularly tailored for children with autism and their families. We are incredibly grateful to Valero and with their support we will be able to provide more activities and equipment for our members."
Valero public affairs manager Stephen Thornton, speaking following a visit to the youth club, said: "Autism can be isolating for both parents and children, and this youth club offers a support network that is essential to a family's wellbeing. The work done here is inspiring and Valero is delighted to support such an extraordinary organisation. It is incredibly important that we are able to give back to the community and the Pembrokeshire Autism Friendly Youth Club provides a wonderful opportunity for us to do so."
