A BOOK that explores the history of Bream Gardening Society and its annual show will be launched on Saturday, June 13.

Well-known Bream author and historian, Ian Hendry will be at West Dean Centre in Bream to talk about Unearthed, The History Of Bream Flower Show from 1.30pm to 5pm.

Mr Hendry wrote the book to celebrate the society's 150th anniversary this year.

Society secretary, Jennifer Lang said: "Many things have changed over the years – there have sometimes been carnivals and extraordinary events such as horseback musical chairs and, since 1949, the show has been augmented by a special autumn Chrysanthemum Show. Children have always been encouraged to participate, and there are some elderly residents of Bream who still remember winning prizes as small children."

For more information about the book launch call Jennifer on 01594 719314.

An exhibition, where the society's 150th anniversary quilt will be the centrepiece, is to be held at the Dean Heritage Centre from June 22 and September 13. This year's Bream Flower Show takes place on August 15 at Bream Rugby Club.
