I NOTED with interest the report regarding the approach being made to Gloucestershire County Council by three Forest of Dean county councillors for a celebration of the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta.

Your readers may be interested to hear that since January of this year plans have been developed by the Coleford Area Partnership in conjunction with some re-enactors for a spectacular event to be held at the Speech House fields on Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16 from 10am to 5pm each day.

In the Forest of Dean administrative area more than 5,300 children are in primary education and the partnership felt it was most important that we help our young people to understand the importance of Magna Carta.

The event will be free for all to attend and the partnership would be most grateful to hear from any business, group, or individual who would like to make a financial contribution to assist us in this end.

All primary schools are aware of the event and have been invited to take part in an art competition to advertise the event in their own area.     Anyone who would like more information is welcome to make contact with the partnership office at The Main Place, Coleford between 9am and 1pm Monday to Friday, or by email (see our website http://www.main-place.org.uk">www.main-place.org.uk)
