RNLI Angle's all-weather lifeboat was tasked by Milford Coastguard on Saturday to go to the aid of a diver, with a suspected heart attack and possible bends, on board a vessel off Martin's Haven.

The Tamar class lifeboat Mark Mason was preparing to rehouse from a public relations event when she received the alert at 3.15 pm. As she was making best speed to the scene, information was received that Rescue Helicopter 169 and a land ambulance had also been tasked.

Once on scene, at 3.42 pm, the lifeboat transferred two of her crew members to provide medical care for the diver, while the vessel manoeuvred alongside a nearby jetty and collected a coastguard rescue officer, along with a defibrillator and more oxygen in case they were needed.

When Rescue 169 arrived on the scene it lowered its winchman to the vessel and, after an assessment, the casualty was airlifted to Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest.

With no more assistance required, the lifeboat recovered her two crew members from the vessel and returned to her station, where she was rehoused at 5.20 pm.
