Local parents and teachers have contacted the Ross Gazette to express their frustration at Herefordshire County Council's new rules concerning free school transport.
From the start of the upcoming school year, September 2015, children in Herefordshire will only be eligible for free transport to a school which is the nearest to their house.
If the school they prefer to send their children to is further away, the parents are facing a bill of more than £700 a year to pay for a bus pass.
Nigel Griffiths, the Headteacher of John Kyrle High School in Ross-on-Wye, spoke to the Ross Gazette. He explained that he, and a group of other headteachers in the county, are yet to be convinced that this decision from the council makes financial sense.
Mr Griffiths argues that in some cases, money will be taken out of the county; children who live in Herefordshire will be transported to a school in another authority.
