A protest against the badger cull took place in Ross-on-Wye on Saturday, July 4th. About 100 people marched around the streets of the town centre, chanting: "Save our badgers, stop the cull" before listening to several speeches by the river side.

The protest had been organised by the Badger Trust and the Gloucestershire Badger Conservation Group. For the most part, the protest was a peaceful one; the age range of the group varied from very young children in pushchairs, to the elderly in mobility scooters. Protesters walked around the town, handing out leaflets and talking with passers by.

There was, however, one exception to this peaceful protest. On Wye Street, a young man, who was a member of the public, was arrested on suspicion of theft.

Eyewitnesses told the Ross Gazette that they saw the young man sprint away with what they assumed to be the protesting group's microphone. They saw another young man, who was protesting the cull, chase after him, which resulted in a scuffle.

Local police intervened, and arrested the man. They told the Ross Gazette that they do not believe he is connected with the protest group in any way. Police investigations are currently ongoing, and he has been released on bail.
