A BIRTHDAY was twice as nice for an 11-year-old when he received a letter from a children's television programme congratulating him on raising £1,600 for chairty. Ben Lovejoy was 'really pleased' when a Blue Peter badge landed on his doorstep at his home in Halwill Junction. Ben and his father, Paul, raised more than £1,600 for Crohn's and Colitis UK after completing a 50-mile bike ride around the area in the summer. Later in the school holidays, Ben wrote to Blue Peter to share his fundraising story and on Friday, September 19, a letter arrived, including a blue and white badge — the same day as his 11th birthday. Blue badges are awarded for sending interesting letters, emails, stories, pictures, poems, good ideas for the programme, and for having appeared on Blue Peter. Ben's mother, Rachel, said he was 'really pleased' to receive it and has been 'very proudly showing if off'.
