FIRE Crews from Holsworthy fire station were called to an ‘unknown water leak’ at a property in Bradworthy.

The incident, in the evening of Sunday, February 24 saw a crew of five called to the incident, in a ground floor bedroom and laundry room, with the leak impacting a fire alarm detector and surrounding electrics.

After an inspection of the roof space and the exterior roof, it transpired that the leak was due to rain water from the torrential rain conditions outside seeping through the roof tiles and side walls around the lead flashing on the roof above the rooms.

Once the cause had been ascertained, the crew from Holsworthy fire station made the scene safe before reinstating the fire alarm panel and issued advice to the occupier before returning back to base.

They also added a warning to motorists regarding attempting to drive through flood water in poor weather conditions, stating that while going to attend the incident they came across a significant amount of standing water and flooding.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue service said: “A crew of five were mobilised to a residential home with an unknown water leak coming through the ceiling into a ground floor bedroom and laundry room, also affecting the fire alarm detector head and electrics.

“After inspecting the roof space and the exterior roof, the crew could confirmed this was due to rain water seeping through the tiles and side walls around the lead flashing on the roof above the rooms. Crews made the scene safe, reinstated the alarm panel and gave advice before heading back to home station.

“While driving to this incident we came across a lot of standing water and flooding on the local roads, please drive carefully and do NOT attempt to drive through flood water”
