THE A390 is now fully open again at Callington following an accident on the A390 near its junction with Florence Road in which a driver crashed into a tree and then had to be cut from his vehicle.
Florence Road leads from the roundabout at the Gunnislake and Kit Hill stretch of the A390 to the town’s Tesco store and then the town centre. The accident is said to have happened at around 2.25pm, which is when a 999 call was made.
A police spokesperson said that all three emergency services – police, fire and ambulance - attended the incident and fire crews had to cut into the vehicle to free the male driver.
Police later confirmed that the driver had received some injuries in the accident and had been taken to Derriford Hospital, Plymouth, by ambulance.
The latest update on the Devon and Cornwall Police Inrix Traffic Watch page at 4.05pm stated: ‘A390 both ways partially blocked, queueing traffic due to accident at Florence Road’, and this was repeated at 5.23pm.At 5.48pm the Devon and Cornwall Roads Policing team reported that the clear-up and recovery of the vehicle was under way: "A390 at Callington closed following a serious Collision - recovery and clear up is ongoing thanks for your patience."The clearance and recovery work is now finished and the road is fully open.
