STRATTON Bowling Club celebrated the 100th birthday of one of its members, Alf Tilley on Wednesday, August 9.

The game was played between a Stratton team and the opposition was made up with Mr Tilley’s friends from Bude, Camelford and Kensey Vale bowling clubs.

Mr Tilley bowled the first wood of the afternoon to loud applause and a very pleasant afternoon followed, with the result being a tie, three rinks each.

The afternoon ended with a superb tea provided by the ladies of Stratton, a cake and a large card signed by all present.

Mr Tilley, from Crackington Haven, celebrated his birthday at the end of July.

He received a card from the Queen, a telegram from the Secretary of State and a hand-signed card from his eldest sister Lottie, who died peacefully just one week before at the age of 101.

Last year Mr Tilley published his memoirs and his book, A Century of Change, is available from Spencer Thorn in Bude and other local stores in St Gennys.
