It has been a wonderful 2023 for Launceston with so many of the projects coming together to benefit our residents and visitors.
We move forward with the external works on Lawrence House, to then open the museum later next year. The skate park consultations funding is in place in partnership with Coronation Park Trustees, the purchase of Barclays Bank in partnership with Cornwall Council to bring our library hub into the heart of the town square late next year, another successful Christmas light switch on are just a few of the town council’s achievements.
We are very fortunate to have local businessman Michael Davey step up and with his team set up a Community Interest Company to save our Leisure Centre, work continues to make this an even better facility. A working group are looking at the possibility of bringing the railway back to Launceston, very early days, but an exciting prospect. Look out for more in 2024.
The events happening in the town hall, have been so varied and diverse and the Chamber of Commerce bringing the markets back to the square, as well and the hugely popular Easter Egg Hunt and Hallowe’en Trail. Our many award-winning businesses are a shining light for the independent shopping experience Launceston offers.
Our fabulous volunteers who quietly make the groups and organisations work within our town, have once again excelled, differing in so many ways from the Foodbank to Launceston in Bloom, U3A to Man Down, and everyone in between. Thank you for what you do to make Launceston such an inclusive and special place to live.
Launceston, an amazing town with extraordinary people. Nadelik Lowen to you all!

Mayor of Launceston
